Rare Southern Serow Spotted in Cambodia

Mondulkiri: The Ministry of Environment has released images of a rare Southern Serow that was captured by automatic cameras in Cambodia. The Southern Serow is rarely seen in Cambodia, being listed as “near-threatened” by the International Union for the Conservation of Nature.

The Ministry says it doesn’t yet have data as to how many of the Serow still exist in the country. Environmental researchers were previously worried that the species had become extinct in Cambodia due to a loss of habitat.

The Wildlife Conservation Society of Cambodia has previously captured images of this rare animal in the Cardomom Mountains, as well as in the Preah Vihear Protected Forest and Mondulkiri’s Seima Forest.
